Come to Jesus: Accepting the Gift of Salvation

September, 2026

Why accepting Jesus Christ is the greatest decision you will ever make.

Primary Scriptures

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16 (ESV)

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Romans 10:9 (ESV)

Introduction: The Longing Every Heart Feels

Every person carries questions deep within their soul.

Why am I here?

What is my purpose?

Can I be forgiven?

Does God love me?

Is there hope beyond my mistakes?

Many spend their lives searching for answers in success, relationships, possessions, or achievements. Yet no amount of earthly satisfaction can fill the emptiness that only God can satisfy.

The truth is, we were created for relationship with Him.

And that relationship is found through Jesus Christ.

Why We Need a Savior

God created humanity to know Him and walk with Him.

But sin entered the world through disobedience.

Sin separates us from God.

It affects our thoughts, actions, and hearts.

The Bible says:

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Romans 3:23 (ESV)

No one is exempt.

No one is good enough.

No one can earn their way back to God through good works or religious effort.

Without Christ, we are spiritually lost.

But God, in His love, made a way.

God's Love Was Revealed Through Jesus

God did not abandon humanity.

He sent His Son.

Jesus Christ came into the world, lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, and rose again three days later.

His death paid the price we could never pay.

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 5:8 (ESV)

Jesus took our punishment upon Himself so that we could receive forgiveness and eternal life.

Salvation is not earned.

It is a gift.

Analogy: A Debt You Could Never Repay

Imagine owing a debt so large that you could never repay it.

No matter how hard you worked, you would always come up short.

Then someone steps in and pays the debt in full.

Not because you deserved it.

Not because you earned it.

But because they loved you.

That is what Jesus did.

The debt of sin was too great for us to pay.

But Christ paid it in full on the cross.

“It is finished.”

John 19:30 (ESV)

Nothing more needs to be added.

Jesus has done the work.

Salvation Is Received by Faith

Many people believe they must clean themselves up before coming to God.

But Jesus invites us to come as we are.

Broken.

Weary.

Burdened.

Lost.

He does not ask for perfection.

He asks for faith.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.”

Ephesians 2:8–9 (ESV)

Grace means unearned favor.

You cannot earn salvation.

You simply receive it.

What Does It Mean to Accept Jesus?

Accepting Jesus means:

Believing that He is the Son of God.

Recognizing that you are a sinner in need of forgiveness.

Trusting that His death and resurrection paid for your sins.

Turning away from sin and turning toward Him.

Surrendering your life to His lordship.

Receiving Him not only as Savior, but also as Lord.

Jesus said:

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

John 14:6 (ESV)

There is no other name by which we are saved.

A New Life Begins

When you accept Christ, you are not simply joining a religion.

You are entering a relationship.

You become forgiven.

Adopted.

Redeemed.

A child of God.

The Bible says:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”

2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)

Your past no longer defines you.

Your failures no longer own you.

Your identity is found in Christ.

And though you will still face struggles, you will never face them alone.

The Invitation Is Open Today

Jesus is not waiting for you to become perfect.

He is waiting for you to come.

No sin is too great.

No past is too broken.

No heart is too far gone.

His grace is greater.

His mercy is deeper.

His love is wider than you can imagine.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28 (ESV)

Today can be the day everything changes.

How to Receive Jesus Christ

If you desire to place your faith in Jesus, Scripture says:

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Romans 10:13 (ESV)

Salvation is not found in repeating perfect words.

It is found in genuine faith and surrender.

You can pray something like this:

Prayer of Salvation, accepting Jesus Christ

Heavenly Father,

I come before You acknowledging that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. Thank You for loving me and sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to die for my sins and rise again.

Today, I turn from my sin and place my trust in Jesus alone. I believe that He is Lord and Savior. Forgive me, cleanse me, and make me a new creation.

I surrender my life to You. Teach me to follow You and help me to live according to Your will. Thank You for Your grace, Your mercy, and the gift of eternal life.

I receive Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.

In Jesus' name, AMEN.

Closing Exhortation

If you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ, know this:

You are forgiven.

You are loved.

You are redeemed.

You are a child of God.

He will never leave you nor forsake you.

This is not the end of your journey.

It is the beginning.

Walk with Him.

Read His Word.

Pray daily.

Find a Bible-believing church.

Grow in faith.

And remember:

Jesus did not come to make bad people good.

He came to make dead people alive.

“Whoever has the Son has life.”

1 John 5:12 (ESV)

Come to Jesus. He is enough.
